Nia is an innovation consultant based in Llandudno, North Wales.
Originally from Anglesey, Nia graduated in Physics from the University of Manchester before becoming a Patent Examiner at the European Patent Office in the Netherlands. Returning to the UK, she joined the IP department of a science-based multinational, qualifying as a UK and European Patent Attorney and eventually managing the IP function. She then returned with her family to North Wales, initially working as an IP consultant before joining the Innovation Team at the Welsh Government. She moved to the Health Department to work on IP Commercialisation in the Welsh NHS and was seconded to Swansea University to help set up and work on the AgorIP project. Her most recent Welsh Government role was working for the former Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales as Head of Research & Innovation Engagement based in London.
Nia is a European Patent Attorney, a Chartered Physicist and a Member of the Institute of Physics, sitting on the IoP Wales Committee. She sits on the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales Advisory Panel and on the Board of Directors of the Menai Science Park (M-Sparc). Until recently, Nia was a member of the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Network and she is a proud STEM Ambassador.
