Interim Chief Commissioner Announced

7 February 2025

We are pleased to announce that Huw George has been confirmed as the interim Chief Commissioner at the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (NWJCC) for the next 12 months.

Huw, currently the Deputy CEO and Executive Director of Operations and Finance at Public Health Wales, will assume the role full-time at the NWJCC from April 1, 2025.

Ian Green, Chair of the Joint Commissioning Committee, shared his thoughts: "We are grateful to Public Health Wales for supporting this secondment and to Huw for his willingness to take on this role. We believe that Huw's experience and leadership will be instrumental in making the progress needed over the next 12 months while we complete the substantive recruitment process."

Huw joined Public Health Wales in 2010 as the Director of Finance and has held various posts on Boards in the NHS, including in Powys and Swansea. He trained as a Chartered Accountant and has extensive experience working in all sectors of the NHS and with the Welsh Government on secondment.

Ian also acknowledged the contributions of Stacey Taylor, Deputy Chief Commissioner and Director of Finance at the NWJCC, who has been serving as the interim Chief Commissioner since October: "Stacey has done an outstanding job and her efforts have been greatly appreciated by the Joint Committee and the wider NWJCC team. Her sterling leadership and commitment during a challenging period have been invaluable."

Ian added: "Good progress continues to be made on landing our first Integrated Medium Term Plan (IMTP) as the NWJCC and working through the organisational change process in our transition year. This all puts us in a good place to conclude our first year as a new organisation as we work on our vision to be a centre of excellence for collaborative commissioning. We look forward to welcoming Huw on board in the next few weeks.
