NWJCC (NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee) Team Continues Aims to be a Culturally Competent Organisation

29/08/2024

The NWJCC Team has continued its work to establish a culturally competent work environment for everyone by refreshing a submission for the new organisation since being established in April 2024.

A commitment made by the NWJCC's Interim Chief Commissioner, Abigail Harris, to continue focussing on creating a diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects the patients and communities the NWJCC serves through commissioning, builds on the work already started at the predecessor teams at the Emergency Ambulance Services Committee (EASC) and the National Collaborative Commissioning Unit (NCCU).

The Cultural Competence Certification Scheme provides a structured approach to organisations continually improve their working practices supporting people faced with inequality and discrimination because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

Diverse Cymru’s Cultural Competence Certification Scheme is a multi-award-winning initiative. It helps organisations ensure teams are diverse, inclusive, and supports everyone to be themselves at work.

This in turn enables the NWJCC team to apply the same principles in how they commission services for patients and diverse communities throughout Wales.

The NWJCC Team expects to receive confirmation from Diverse Cymru in the autumn of the progress made.
