Welcome to the Cardiac Services, where we oversee the commissioning of specialised and life-saving cardiac and transplantation services across Wales.
Within our commissioning portfolio, we prioritise access to advanced cardiac treatments, including Heart Transplantation, which encompasses the use of Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) for patients awaiting transplantation. We also oversee Electrophysiology services, including ablation procedures and complex ablations, to manage cardiac rhythm disorders and improve patient outcomes.
Our commissioning efforts extend to Heart and Lung transplantation, providing hope and lifesaving treatment options for individuals with end-stage heart and lung diseases. Additionally, we ensure access to Complex Cardiac devices and Interventional Cardiology procedures to manage complex cardiac conditions and improve cardiac function.
In collaboration with healthcare providers, we commission services for the management of Inherited Cardiac Conditions and Adult Congenital Heart Disease, ensuring comprehensive care for patients with genetic or congenital heart abnormalities. We also oversee Cardiac Surgery services, including complex procedures to treat heart conditions and restore cardiac function.
Furthermore, we prioritise the commissioning of services for Pulmonary Hypertension, supporting individuals with high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. Additionally, we facilitate access to specialised care for patients with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disorder affecting the lungs and other organs.
Our department also oversees the coordination of Cardiac Networks, fostering collaboration among healthcare providers to improve the delivery of cardiac care services and optimise patient outcomes. Moreover, we support the commissioning of Bariatric Surgery services, providing surgical interventions for individuals with severe obesity to improve their overall health and quality of life.
Our team is committed to ensuring equitable access to life-saving cardiac and transplantation services for individuals across Wales. Through strategic commissioning, collaboration with stakeholders, and continuous quality improvement initiatives, we strive to improve outcomes and enhance the well-being of our community members affected by cardiac and transplantation-related conditions.
