The new Joint Commissioning Committee (JCC) for NHS Wales brought stakeholders together on 29 April at a workshop in Cardiff to look at shaping the future vision for Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services in Wales.
Working in collaboration with NHS Wales organisations, the team at the new Joint Commissioning Committee (JCC) held the vision workshop with key stakeholders from NHS Wales, local government, and third sector.
In December 2023, the Emergency Ambulance Services Committee endorsed the development of a new future vision for NEPTS, following the formal closure of the 2016 NEPTS Business Case.
Looking to the future, the vision workshop looked at opportunities to shape the future of NEPTS in Wales, aiming to meet the needs of patients and Health Boards in the coming years.
The day involved keynote speakers who presented on a range of topics relating to transport for healthcare, population requirements and public sector opportunities and challenges.
The day built on patient and demand research already underway, through breakout sessions in the afternoon before closing with a plenary.
Approximately 50 delegates attended representing Health Board and Welsh Ambulance Service leads covering Planning, Planned Care, Operational, Patient Experience, Mental Health as well as wider stakeholders such as Transport for Wales and the Community Transport Association.
Director of Commissioning for Ambulance and 111 at the JCC, Stephen Harrhy said: “This has been a great opportunity to have so many interested stakeholders together to look at not just what is needed in the new strategy, but also to help with the implementation of the strategy as we take forward this work for the people and communities of Wales.”
