New Chief Commissioner Appointed

The NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (NWJCC) has announced the appointment of Juliet Brown as the organisation’s new substantive Chief Commissioner, following a comprehensive recruitment process. Juliet is expected to take up the role in late May.

Juliet is a values‑driven and strategic leader with more than two decades of experience working across some of the UK’s most complex systems, including health and social care, public services, and the voluntary sector. She has successfully led large‑scale system transformation programmes, overseen organisational workforce redesign, and managed multi‑million‑pound budgets.

Her career has been defined by a strong focus on turning ambition into action—uniting partners, shaping shared missions, and delivering sustainable improvements that make a meaningful difference to people and communities. Juliet brings a deep commitment to developing high‑performing, equitable services where outcomes improve, voices are heard, and systems are strengthened for the future.

Juliet also has a proven track record in values‑led organisational leadership. She has helped build positive internal cultures where teams feel clarity, ownership, and pride, and has experience leading strategic communications and high‑impact public engagement campaigns.

Ahead of taking up her post, Juliet said: “I am genuinely excited to be joining the NWJCC at such an important moment. The opportunity to further strengthen collaboratively commissioned services for patients across Wales is a real privilege. I am passionate about developing our team, building pride in what we do, and ensuring that everything we deliver is firmly rooted in improving outcomes and experiences for the people we serve.”

NWJCC Chair, Ian Green said:  "The NWJCC’s purpose is to commission high‑quality national services for patients across Wales, and Juliet’s values and experience align strongly with our mission.

"Juliet is looking forward to meeting colleagues, understanding current priorities, and working collaboratively to shape the next phase of the organisation’s development.

"I would also like to express thanks to Huw George, who will continue in his Chief Commissioner interim role, to support a smooth handover as Juliet prepares to take up the post.

"We look forward to welcoming Juliet and supporting her as she leads us into the next stage of our journey."
