NWJCC Shortlisted for Moondance Cancer Awards 2026

The Medical Team at the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (NWJCC) has been shortlisted for two Moondance Cancer Awards, recognising collaborative national work to improve cancer services for people across Wales.

NWJCC has been shortlisted in the following categories:

  • Working Together – Achievement
Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) Outcomes Programme
(Delivered in partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board)

A collaborative team of clinicians, data managers, analysts and commissioners have worked together to improve understanding of lymphoma care in Wales. By working across organisations, they created a new dataset that shows real patient pathways and outcomes. This local data is now helping to plan services more effectively and support clearer conversations with patients about their treatment options, leading to better care for people in Wales.

  • Cancer Treatment – Innovation and Improvement
South East Wales Cancer of Unknown Primary Team
(Working alongside partner organisations: Velindre University NHS Trust, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, NHS Wales Performance and Improvement, All Wales Medical Genomics Service, Centre for Trials Research – Cardiff University, and Wales Cancer Research Centre)

Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) often leads to delayed diagnosis, unclear responsibility and limited treatment options. The South East Wales CUP team led by Sonali Dasgupta, Consultant Oncologist, introduced an innovative, specialist service that brings patients into a single, coordinated pathway, where cancer specialists from different disciplines meet quickly to agree diagnosis and treatment plans. Combined with personalised, genomics‑led treatment decisions, this approach has reduced delays, improved access to targeted therapies and given patients clearer plans and better outcomes, transforming CUP care across Wales.

Iolo Doull, Medical Director at NWJCC, said: “This recognition is really about the people behind the work, clinicians, analysts and colleagues across NWJCC and partner organisations who have worked closely together to improve how some specialised cancer services are planned and delivered. Their commitment to understanding pathways better and using evidence more effectively has been central to this achievement.

“Being shortlisted is a real credit to everyone involved and reflects the value of collaboration in improving care for people affected by cancer.”

In addition, several nationally commissioned cancer services and treatment pathways, commissioned by NWJCC have also been shortlisted, highlighting the wider impact of cancer services delivered across Wales, including CAR-T, Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) Service, and SWWCC Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) Service Expansion.

The Moondance Cancer Awards celebrate excellence across cancer services in Wales. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 11 June 2026.
